Bule Hora University Journey
Bule Hora University is one of the public universities in Ethiopia envisioned to be at the forefront of scientific knowledge production for the development of the nation and scientific communities around the world. Even though the university is very young and has gone through many ups and downs in its short periods of time, it has successfully achieved substantial progresses particularly in the last one year and half; university's progress has been accelerated by series of reform measures undertaken by university managing council.  Among the series reform measures, about more than twenty guidelines have been developed and approved by the university senate giving directions and frameworks for activities conducted in the university; program expansion has been vigorously pursued in both undergraduate and post graduate program and the university has almost doubled its undergraduate programs within a year and few months increasing the numbers of undergraduate departments from thirty three to fifty seven and in the coming academic year this number will increase to seventy. In the post graduate program, the university has increased its department from one to twenty within the last two years. The university has also developed a curriculum to launch PhD program in Business administration in the coming academic year. To maintain security and safety of students and university communities, the university has built about 7.6 km massive concert wall within very few months in this year.

Located at the heart of communities cherished with indigenous knowledge and various form of cultural practices as well as a huge natural resources reserves in the country, Bule Hora University is an ideal university for any researchers or scientific communities to conduct researchers in the areas of indigenous knowledge of various kinds. In line with this, Bule Hora University has organized its fourth national research symposium in the year 2018 on the revitalization of indigenous knowledge for developments to bring scientific communities together to present their works, exchange ideas and concepts related to the indigenous values, norms and institutions.

The institute of Gadaa and Culture study has been launched to promote and preserve indigenous knowledge system in the modern world of uncertainties. In this regards, the university has planned to launch Master program in the Gadaa studies with the coming year. In terms of preserving local history and culture, the university has also successful completed the design of Galma Qachaa  Me'ee Bokkoo and Tuulaa Surroo monument in this academic year.

On the other hands, pertinent to the local contexts, three areas of excellences have been identified by the university (mining, animal production and indigenous knowledge) launched at three locations in the two Guji zones. In the Guji zone, at Adola District, mining research center has been launched to help the local communities benefit from huge reserve of minerals in the zone.  Adola District is chosen as mining research center of Bule Hora University because of its geographical positioning which is near the Lega Dambi areas, the place known for its huge reserve of gold minerals and many others precious metals including tantalum in Ethiopia. In Uraga District, highland crops research center has been launched to introduce varieties of highland crops into the two Guji zones. The two zones have ample arable and potentially irrigable lands to realize food security in the areas and many parts of Oromia contributing to country's growth and transformation plan strategies in the agricultural sectors. In addition, at Duda Dawa Distinct, agro processing researcher center has been launched emphasizing on the animal breeding and processing of animal products to be sold to the local communities and international markets. As Duda Dawa District is a pastoralist District of the West Guji Zone, improving animal breeding and increasing its yields through scientific research engagements and technological transfer are very important to transform the life of traditional pastoralists in the zone.

Concomitant with the national objective of realizing rapid economic transformations, the university has also involved in huge projects that will hopefully nurture and enhance national development objectives. The first project is the power projects (solar, wind and water) are currently under study by the team of academic staffs from the college of Engineering and Technology with the aim of supporting the national government's efforts to provide access to power sources in different parties of the country. The second project is the airline feasibility study project. The main goal of this project is to show the feasibility of the airline particularly its economic benefits for Ethiopian Airport Enterprises and communities in southern Ethiopia as it will boost center-periphery linkages in economic, political, cultural and social interactions and national intercalations. The third project under study is mini industrial park project. Depending on the economic contexts of the local communities in the southern Ethiopia, the university has initiated mini industrial park feasibility study in the area of agro process industries. This will contribute hugely to the development of the local communities and also Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of the country as well. These are not exhaustive lists of projects currently under study by the university.
