Background

Computing has dramatically influenced progress in science, engineering, business, and many other areas of human endeavor. In today’s digital world, nearly everyone needs to use computers, and many will want to study computing in some form. Computing will continue to present challenging career opportunities, and those who work in computing will have a crucial role in shaping the future.

With this understanding, the Ethiopian Government has made the development of information and communications technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as one of its strategic priorities. To support the efforts of the government in addressing some of the challenges it faces in rolling out its ICT and AI for development agenda, Bule Hora University established the College of Computing and Informatics under the academic wing.

The College of Computing and Informatics is one of the biggest and growing members of Bule Hora University. In the academic year 2005E.C/2012G.C, it enrolled its first batch of degree students when it was under the Engineering and Technology Faculty.

The College of Computing and Informatics was separated from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and established as a college in 2010E.C/2018G.C. The newly established College began teaching-learning activities with its existing programs and continued expanding in the following years.

Currently, the college has 6 undergraduate programs and 4 postgraduate programs. The college has produced competent computing experts, software engineers, programmers, network administrators, system analysts, and professionals who are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to solve individual and organizational problems and bring growth to the whole world.

Along with the production of professionals, the college carries public responsibility to back up the development effort of the nation through the provision of quality education, research activities, community-based service, and many others.

More than 1600 students were graduated from the college in undergraduate and postgraduate programs since 2016E.C/2024G.C. In doing so, it has contributed potential manpower to different private and governmental sectors of the country as well as the global market.

The College has over 84 instructors, 18 lab technicians, about 8 administrative staff members, and nearly 1,178 students in all modalities.
