Background

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) at Bule Hora University is one of the university’s major academic colleges, dedicated to promoting knowledge and understanding of human societies, cultures, governance, and social development.

The college currently consists of 13 active departments and delivers regular, weekend, and extension education programs across the main campus and extension centers located in Bore, Uraga, Adola, Negele, Gwangwa, and Tore.

In addition to undergraduate education, the college offers 16 MA programs in regular modality and 12 MA programs in weekend modality, alongside two PhD programs in Geography and Environmental Studies and Afaan Oromo and Literature.

To support academic quality and administration, the college operates several coordinating offices, including postgraduate, registrar, quality assurance, and research and community service coordination units.

As of the 2026/2018 academic year, the college serves a total of 2,071 students across regular, weekend, and summer modalities, including 1,975 undergraduate and 96 postgraduate students.

The college is supported by a dedicated academic staff of 160 members, including jointly employed staff, with academic personnel actively contributing to teaching, research, and community engagement.

Among the staff are lecturers, PhD holders, laboratory assistants, and associate professors who play a significant role in enhancing academic excellence and institutional development.
