Definition
Architecture is an interdisciplinary field that comprises several major components: humanities, social and physical sciences, technology and the creative arts. “Since architecture is created in a field of tension between reason, emotion and intuition, architectural education should be regarded as the manifestation of the ability to conceptualize, co-ordinate and execute the idea of building rooted in human tradition.”
Mission and Vision of the Department
The department of Architecture strives to use design thinking and creative problem solving to address the issues faced by society. We integrate this approach into how we teach our students, the research that we produce, and the services that we provide to our communities. The overarching vision for the department of Architecture is to prepare our graduates to actively participate in the construction industry through design and supervision and respond to change in the local, national and international communities.
Mission: As part of BHU, the Architecture department is dedicated to educating future generations of ethical professionals, creative designers and informed citizens.
Vision: We believe architecture to be a conceptually based intellectual endeavor and a form of critical inquiry that addresses the built and natural environments from the scale of the city to the scale of the detail. The department is committed to producing conceptual thinkers and skilled makers who are versed in the techniques and knowledge of the discipline and who are knowing of: critical theory, history, science and progressive social values. To realize these objectives, design is taught as a critical, speculative and creative endeavor embracing both the humanities and the sciences.
