Department of Governance and Development Studies Overview
Established in 2011 under the College of Social Science and Humanities, the Department of Governance and Development Studies at Bule Hora University equips students with knowledge, values, and skills to address Ethiopia's governance and development challenges. Offering undergraduate (BA) and graduate (MA) programs, the department focuses on producing leaders, policy analysts, and development practitioners through quality education, research, and community engagement. Currently serving 78 students (62 BA, 16 MA) with 8 academic staff, it emphasizes practical solutions aligned with national needs.

Regular Degree: Completion of freshman courses (social science background preferred).

Extension/Summer/Distance: Diploma (12+2) in social sciences or 2+ years teaching Civic/Ethical Education.
Graduation Requirements: 250 ECTS (145 credits), minimum CGPA of 2.00, and passing exit exams.

Selection process based on BHU Senate guidelines.
Duration: 2 years (max 3 years with approval).
Graduation Requirements: 83.6 ECTS, minimum CGPA of 3.00, and successful thesis defense.
