About Institute Gada and Culture Studies
The Gadaa system is an indigenous Oromo worldview and a highly democratic governance system that has been used to regulate the political, economic, socio-cultural, legal, religious, calendar and other aspects of the Oromo people, which has been in place since the time immemorial. The system reflects the unique cultural values, practices, and governance structures that have evolved over generations, shaping the identity and cohesion of the Oromo community. Moreover, the Gadaa System is often described as a unique political and social organization that governs the entire life of the Oromo people. It is characterized by a system of governance, social classes, age grades, and rituals that regulate various aspects of Oromo life. Recently, Bule Hora University launched Institute of Gada and Culture Studies (IGCS) since 2019 GC. Institute of Gadaa and Culture Studies (IGCS) is an academic and research institution dedicated to promoting the highest standards of research, education and community engagement in all aspects of Gadaa and Culture studies.
